Mermaids, Iceland, & Fae - Oh my!
Sorry for skipping the last few months, but many things have happened!
!!Publication News!!
I have three things that were released recently!
First up is Fae Deals & Other Tales - a collection of 18 fantasy stories, many about fae-human interactions, but also features magic plants, werewolves, selkies, and witches. I can guarantee there’s something here for everyone. It was a Kindle Vella exclusive originally (and you can still read it there, including the first three stories for free) but come Dec 20th, it will be available on Amazon and as part of KU. Feel free to place a pre-order! Paperback and ebooks on other platforms are in the works!
Tomorrow and Beyond, my first solo anthology, got an audiobook! It’s currently only available on Google Books/Google Play and may eventually transfer to other platforms. And since you subscribe to my newsletter, for the next 30 days (till Dec 19th) you can get it 50% off! Just use the code WDTR2D010PCD2 when you check out, or purchases here.
Denizens of the Deep is now available on Amazon! This is the anthology I’ve been editing all year, full of stories exploring the creatures of the deep. Expect mermaids, underwater cities, murder, treasure. It’s all there! My own contribution is a story about an undine - I love how that mythology is a twist on animal bride myths.
Gwen’s Writing Gossip
It’s mid-November so that means I’m in the depths of NaNo, or National Novel Writing Month right now. I have two main projects I’m working on. One is edits for the sequel to my middle-grade ghost story Cydelle’s Ghost Hunt. The sequel is so far called Cydelle’s Camp Adventure and I’m hoping for an April release, but we’ll see if that timeline holds steady.
I’m also working on my first creative non-fiction, a travelogue about my recent vacation to Iceland. I had such a good time there, it’s one of the few countries trips I’ve repeated, and if I’m going to tell those stories repeatedly, why not write them down? Eventually, I’ll have it published for you all to read, but that’s a few months away. Gotta write it, then edit it after all!
I’ve also signed up to be a contributor for a new anthology from Not A Pipe Publishing called Written with Pride scheduled for a June 2023 publication. I’ll let you know more when I do ^_~
Returning to You is still kicking! I got to talk to Mac from Beyond the Pen about it last week, earning the honor of being the first queer person they’ve interviewed. You can find the episode on most podcast apps, or listen directly on their website.
Returning to You is also eligible for an indie romance award! Books need to be nominated, and it would mean so much if you can help me get past the opening round by submitting your own nominations for my aro ace romance. It fits in both the sapphic and LGBTQIA+ categories.
Media Recommendations
Sadly, I’ve been on a string of books that I’ve picked up and then DNF’d. I don’t know if I’m picky about what I want to read, or just had bad luck with my recent selection of novels. I will say I have seen some good movies lately. The new Enola Holmes was delightful and I really liked the second Black Panther movie, Wakanda Forever. It really jumped out at me for two reasons as well: there’s only one guy with more than a bit part I’d argue, and Shuri got a character arc I rarely see given to women. And to have that journey given to a black woman just made it more powerful. Go see it in theaters - there are some cool fight scenes - but it’ll be a great movie to rewatch as well.
